Simple Moving Tips When You Relocate

And so you ask yourself, “Why do I need moving tips?”  Well, if you’ve moved before or have assisted any of your friends with their move from one location to another, you’ll definitely have a feel of the pros and cons that come with the moving process.

Let’s face it, at some point in your life you may have no other option but to move. For example, you would have to move if being promoted to a higher job position out of city. Whether you’re moving out of Toronto, Ontario or just to another neighborhood, it can be hectic at best and backbreaking at worst. Moving demands a lot of work and planning if you are to execute it efficiently. You can make your moving a hassle-free experience IF you plan ahead of time and follow our moving tips below.

  1. Make a list and items count. Before you can start planning or packing, create a list of all things that you will need to pack. You may want to use your computer to be more organized to help you come up with a visual list showing every line item that needs to be moved. If you do not have a computer, you can just use a spiral notebook to do this simple task. Designate a number to every packing box, and list all the contents in each packing box.
  2. Make sure that you have many packing supplies. If you have properly sized cartons or moving boxes to pack your items, it’ll make your moving experience a lot more enjoyable. The best place to buy moving boxes is from a reputable moving supplies store where they allow you to return unused boxes to obtain a full refund. You should always be sure to buy a few extra moving boxes or cartons that you will need to pack last minute belongings such as beddings and clothing. Buy good quality packing tape along with a tape gun to easily and quickly seal your moving boxes and cartons securely.
  3. Use the wardrobe boxes. These boxes are perfect fit for most bulky lightweight household stuff such as pillows and blankets. Once you have accurately estimated the space of your closets, then you will know the exact number of wardrobe boxes that you need. You can use them to store items that are bulky such as blankets and shoes. One thing to remember when moving is to strategize your packing. Before the actual moving day, get things organized as early as possible without procrastination. This is one of the most important moving tips.
  4. Color coordinate – You need to make a trip to your new home and assign each room a color of its own- such as purple for kitchen items and orange for the living room. Make colored stickers and use them to mark each box with unique colored labels. A matching sticker placed on each room’s door will ease the task for the movers because they will know where each box should go.  This in turn will save you money as “time is money.”
  5. Unpacking is the last of the moving tips. You do not want to have a large volume of huge boxes staring at you for the next two weeks. So after you’ve confirmed that all your belongings made it to your new destination and that there are no missing moving boxes or cartons, designate one room in your new place strictly for unpacking. This room will also act as a “dumping ground” for less important items that need some time for unpacking, or items that are less priority for usage.
